In defence of the mediocre

The world was awash with optimism about our online future: limitless information and total connection would make us more informed, less bigoted and kinder citizens. But what is happening is totally different. The internet has become an overwhelming mess of competing facts, claims, propaganda, misinformation, investigative journalism, different charts, commentary and reportage. Those who are straight forward, and has an original idea, will have much less to contribute here. Others, especially the ones with marketable ideas, will find a green pasture. And they will thrive in this environment, making it permanent.
So, what should we do?
I think we need to change our value system. Rather than applauding the one who masters the extremes of a few, let us always cheer the ones who are acquainted with the most.
